Link Love and Lovelies and a New Year Wish

Isn't it so crazy another year has come and gone?  I am definitely feeling time fly this year!  Even if it feels I haven't been able to take a breather until now, I am so thankful so much has happened!  The biggest things for me in 2011 was that I earned my first master's degree (!) and was accepted to another super-competitive master's program.  I really struggled with the decision about going back to school or not, but with the support of Shug and my amazing family and friends, I left my job and jumped back in!

While I've been crazy-busy since school has started (cough-quietblog-cough), I did have some fun posts from this last year you could take a gander at over the holiday weekend!

~ A breakdown of French style!

~ Remembering that Shug and I went to Paris!

~ Pretty gifs.

~ Drunk babies.  Amazing, really!

~ Shug had a fun surprise birthday party!

~ Complete with a lumberjack photo booth!

~ Annnnd chocolate-covered bacon;)!

~ Finding the perfect jeans.

~ We adopted a hyena/deer/dog!

~ I prepared a Thanksgiving feast!

~ Shug and I made a holiday mix!

Thank you so much for making Goldteef a part of your blogroll, daily reads, and/or links!  While it's been a little quiet, Goldteef isn't going anywhere, so keep checking back for little snippets of life that inspire me!

Here's to wishing you all a safe, happy, and healthy 2012.

Hunter Boot Dupe!

Do you know what I have been coveting for years?  A good pair of Hunter wellies.  They really are chic and functional, especially in the sloppy winters we have here in Utah!  The problem is, Hunter wellies are, well, pricey.  I just couldn't bring myself to buy a pair of rubber boots that were over a $100!  I hovered over at Gilt for a Hunter sale and ended up buying a pair that weren't the EXACT thing that I wanted, but I was hoping they'd suffice.  The fit was much too big around my calf and that's what I had found so appealing about the Original Hunter Wellie...it was a sleek rain boot, NOT a galosh!

Well, I'm here to tell you there is a DUPE for the Original Hunter Wellie and it's....a Hunter Wellie!  The dupe is that you go on over to the kids section at Nordstrom and they have the SAME boot for half the price!  Now, this dupe will only work for ladies (and gents) with a tinier foot, up to about a 7-7.5 to be exact, so I'm sending my apologies for all you larger-footed folks.  I wear a 6.5 and the Big Kid size 4 fit perfectly, even with thicker socks!

Now it's not exactly the same as the adult Hunter wellie.  There are two main differences: 1) the shaft of the boot is about three inches shorter than the adult version, but if you're like me, the taller adult version actually hit uncomfortably at the back of my knee, so the shorter shaft was perfect!  2) There are two greyish-silver reflectors at the back of the kid's version...and I understand this could be a deal-breaker for some, but I truly don't mind them!
So there you have it! I'm excited to stomp my way through this winter and hope this saves you a little moolah if you're on the market for some new boots!

Hoo-to the-ray and a Music Monday!

I.  Am.  Finished.  With.  Finals!!!!!  It feels so good just typing those words!  I probably don't need to mention that I couldn't have done it without my sweet, sweet husband, who was the most supportive force in the world.  From bringing me home soul-restoring pho to tucking me in at two in the morning for a couple hours of sleep to just telling me "I can do it!" - I am forever grateful...and he's gotta do all of this again next semester...BUT, we won't ruin the start of my winter break with talk of next semester!

So, you know what I missed like crazy during super-busy-school-no-fun-time?  Music.  I am excited that I get to listen and share some of my finds with you!  This is Zoo Kid.  Not only does he have sick hair, his guitar-playing chops are impressive.  It's just the mellow stuff needed to ease into vacation-mode.

Studytime!

Goldteef seems to be getting quieter and quieter these days.  I am blaming my insane-o school schedule and the fact that finals are right around the corner.  (Eeep!)  The next two weeks are going to be totally cray-cray for me, so I'll have to check in after all my studying and finals are taken and papers turned in.  I hope you all get to enjoy the holiday season and take a few minutes to do something you love (I really like to watch the old Rudolph and Santa Claus is Comin' to Town!).

See you in a couple of weeks!  Wish me luck and super-extra brain cells!
(And if you really want to keep tabs on the exciting life of a grad student, you can always check out my tweets and Instagram!)

P. to the S.!  It's Mummateef's birthday today!  I hope she has a great one!

SO Thankful...and full!

Did you have a nice holiday?  I really did.  It was the first time I was able to prepare our Thanksgiving meal for my family, so it was really special for me!  Everything turned out really great...except the turkey, of course!  But I think turkey is just kind of underwhelming, in and of itself!

Instead of links today, I'm going list some things that I am thankful for, plus you all probably know the good Black Friday deals without my help!

~ My Shug

~ My supportive and amazing family

~ My crazy and goofy dogs

~ My intelligent and endlessly inspiring friends

~ My education...and continuing education

~ My work ethic I learned from my parents

~ My house

~ My job that has seen me through 3 degrees and counting!

~ Ryan Gosling;)

~ My car that has gotten me to and from wherever for over a decade

~ My health

~ Netflix

~ Gluten-free cupcakes

~ And pretty much a million other things!

xo.

P.S.!!!! Bestest Best is celebrating a birthday today!  Happiest b-day to her!

Link Love and Lovelies...and Some Gratitude

I'll tell you a little secret: I hold myself to some pretty unrealistic standards sometimes.  I also think I'm getting better at not doing this so often, but sometimes, I just want to give everything in my life 110%.  This, of course, is a pretty bad math equation and bad for human sustainability.

It's been a pretty tough week over here in the Goldteef house, I won't go into boring detail, but I will say that we got a big perspective change to let us know that 110%, all of the time, always, is just plain dumb.  Do you know what's important?  It's taking 10 minutes out of your day to call your grandma.  It's finding the time to watch a silly sitcom with your husband.  It's sending that thank you letter (in the snail mail, YES!) that you've been meaning to send.  It's telling your mom or your dad or your moms and your dads that you love them.  It's doing this OFTEN.

So this weekend, take the teensiest amount of time to show some gratitude for the people you love.  I'm sure they'll love it, too.

~ Could live in these.

~ Her life seems pretty alright. Right?

~ Love this.

~ Mayyyybe I could ride a bike if it were this chic!

~ This Canadian tuxedo had me at hello!

~ OMG.  I want this to be my uniform!

~ And a little more gratitude.

Have a lovely weekend.

Link Love and Lovelies

Oh my goodness, you guys.  Last night was SO much fun and it's been quite awhile since I've been able to take a little break from the grind of my master's program!  Needless to say, attending the opening party for Salt Lake City's first H&M and Crate and Barrel was something I'd been looking forward to for weeks.  There were endless delicious Kir Royales with cranberries and local brews to drink and a discount for all the invited shoppers!  We even got to skip the long line that wrapped around the building!  It.  Was.  So.  Fun.  I also managed to score some cute clothes for my rotations as well as this poncho.  I was a little on the fence about it, but once I put it on, I was sold!

Here's to a warm and cozy weekend!  I'll be snuggling in my new poncho;)!

THIS.  Maybe the best tumblr of all time.

I love chai in the wintertime and this recipe fits the bill!

Oh deer, indeed!  Love.

STILL obsessed with this haircut...

But, I'd always take hair like this...

Love these tricks for makeup for girls with glasses.

Forever inspiring color palate.

Friday Link Love and Lovelies

Hello, remember me?  It's really been forever since I've even had two spare minutes to rub together lately!  I miss Goldteef!  I miss having time to read all the beautiful and inspiring things about friends near and far.  But, honestly, I miss fake shopping.  Fake shopping?  Oh, you know what that is!  It's where you go to sites that are forever outside of your price range (I'm looking at you, EmersonMade!) and you fill up your cart with lovely things you wish you could purchase but never would.  It's also shopping for events that are very unlikely to happen in the near future (I'm not really planning on running down the steps of the Louvre anytime soon, but I DO have the dress for it;).)  Well, since I'm here for a sec, I'd thought I'd post some lovelies for your weekend!

~ A good thing to remember.

~ Red pants, I can't quit you!

~ Need to read this.  Now.

~ Those cray-cray Olsens are doing something right!

~ Happy feet.

~ Already thinking about the holidays!

I hope you have a warm and restful weekend!

Friday Link Love and Lovelies

I am pretty proud of ma nailz this week...can you tell;)?  The thing is, doing my nails was probably the only thing I did this week for Goldteef-time.  I absolutely think my graduate studies are me-time, too, but I really needed a little brain-rest, too!  So, enter my nails!  I haven't really ever been a nail painter up until this last year and I discovered I love it!  So for your weekend, I challenge you to some you-time...and that may even be painting your nails, too!

~ I used this for the chunky glitter and this for the rosy-gold base!

~ THIS is why I think my job is important. (Bring tissues!)

~ Too cute.

~ Oh lordy.  Need a pair of these.

~ YUM.

~ Thinking of being her for Halloween!

~ Speaking of Halloween,
I don't know what's crazier (or spookier) in this commercial!

Be sure to have a restful weekend!

Music Monday: Chelsea Wolfe

I thought I'd post something spooky and beautiful, since we're getting close to Halloween!

Chelsea Wolfe has one of the most amazing voices I've heard in awhile.  It's soft, strong, haunting, and unforgettable.  I was almost reminded of Portishead's lead singer, Beth Gibbons, when I first heard Chelsea sing.

I'm picking up her album, Ἀποκάλυψις, as soon as I can.

Friday Love and Lovelies

Whelp, my fall break wasn't much of a break!  I am really thankful for the break in my classes though to *kind of* catch up a little!  I also had a really fun day, totally homework-free, that I got to spend with Mumma and SissyTeef this week!  That made all the other not-so-break-days ok;)!

I hope you have a lovely fall weekend!  Are the colors changing where you are?

~ A perfect list for how to truly love your body.

~ I could live in this showroom!

~ Love her tattoos with a classic LBD.

~ Need these!

~ LOVE Coco Rocha.

~ What a cool bachelor pad.

~ ALL about this!

Enjoy your weekend!

Music Monday: Young Prisms

I really, really, really can't seem to get enough of the dreamy beach pop these days.
Maybe because it's good to study to...
or maybe, and much more likely, it's easier to daydream to!

Young Prisms are all the good stuff I need: hazy vocals, feedback, and wavy guitars.

So.  Good.

Link Love and Lovelies

Crazier weeks have happened, but I daresay this has been a pretty insan-o week for me!  I had my first midterm for my graduate program and.......well, let's just say I'm glad I won't get my grade back until the end of the month!

I am SO excited, though, because I get to hang out with Mumma and Sissyteef soon!  We're planning on brunching and girltime, both of which I am sorely in need of!  It can feel really isolating when you are just plowing ahead with little time for friends or family, so needless to say I am over the moon that I get to spend an entire day with these ladies!

~  Shug and I were in Paris this time last year and we couldn't miss it more!

~ Going to make this!  It's gluten-free AND lemon-y, i.e. perfection!

~ EVERYthing in this collection.

~ This serum has brightened my skin like crazy.  Highly recommend!

~ Adore this chair makeover.

~ This.

~ LOVE her house!

Have a lovely fall weekend!

*Photo of me jaunting through the gardens of Versailles last year.  No big deal.;)

Friday Link Love and Lovelies

How has September flown by so quickly?  On one hand, I am grateful the semester is whizzing by and on the other I want to say "Slow down!" to the beautiful fall colors.  I'll be hitting the books all weekend preparing for a really challenging midterm, so I'll just be dreaming of a nice dinner with Shug as a reward if I make it through it! *Fingers crossed!*  What will you be doing this weekend?

~ Shug and I arrived in Paris the night this was happening last year.
It looks so fun!

~ THIS dress...ummmmm, no.

~ Every single one of these dresses, yes please.

~ Iceland, why do you look so amazing?

~ Tres jolie.

~ I am going to make this!

~ This sweater, times infinity!

Now, go get out and enjoy the fall colors this weekend!

Beautiful Pizza at Pizzeria 712

There aren't a lot of reasons for a heathen like me to head to Utah County.  There is a vast shortage of coffee shops and an even shorter list of places that serve alcohol.  READ: the two beverages that make my life manageable.  Ok, ok, maybe not manageable, but I am a girl who enjoys a glass of wine or two with her meals...especially meals I get to enjoy with my husband, who I see about two days out of the week now!

Enter the holy grail of dining in Orem: Pizzeria 712.  Tucked away in an ocean of beige strip malls and condos, this little oasis leaves you positively uplifted with it's cuisine and delicious beverages.  Shug and I started our meal with a pork belly on a bed of tart cole slaw.  The pork belly was so tender we could cut it with our forks.  I enjoyed a seasonal salad with blanched almonds, fresh nectarines, green beans, red potatoes, and a simple vinaigrette.  The highlight of the dinner was definitely the pizza Shug ordered.  While I wasn't able to sample the pizza (damn you, gluten!), Shug reported the fresh mozzarella and basil paired perfectly with the thin slices of summer squash and Pecorino Romano cheese.
The art decorating the walls and the music that was the backdrop to our conversation was the icing on the cake.  Edgy, yet lovely, both the art and the ambiance were greatly appreciated!  If you are ever in Orem...I know, not very likely, but IF you're in Orem, stop by Pizzeria 712 to treat yourself for your travels!

Music Monday: Youth Lagoon

Oh, hai, rememeber me?

I can't believe it's been a week since I've posted!
It must be pretty obvi that I'm crazy-busy with school, huh?

I haven't really had a ton of time to music-hunt, but the universe must have known that because an old friend emailed me a few days ago with some of his favorite jams as of late!  I couldn't have been more excited!  Not only was it nice to have an old friend touch base, he has excellent taste in music (and pretty much the meanest drum skillz this side of the Mississippi;)!)

I really am liking Youth Lagoon, um, since I'm obsessed with handclaps and echo-y sweetness.
Give em' a listen, I'm sure you'll be smitten before the clip is over!

$9.95, are you outta your mind?!?

While everyone was losing their collective shit over the Missoni for Target release yesterday (and crashed the site for hours!), I scored three pairs of shoes at Anthropologie for $9.95 a pair.
YES.  You read the correctly, $9.95 a PAIR!!!

And, I got free shipping.  Srsly.  So proud of myself right now.

These ain't no synthetic Missoni prints!  It pays not to follow the sheep, sometimes;)!

In the wee, small hours of the morning...

...is when I really get to dream.
My morning ritual looks a little like this:
  • Get up and let the puppies out.
  • Start a mug of hot water in the microwave.
  • Slice a fresh lemon.
  • Let the puppies in and feed them.
  • Plunk a bag of green tea into my mug.
  • Steep.
  • Add a slice of lemon to my tea.
  • Hunker down and catch up on all the beautiful blogs that keep making beautiful posts for me to read.
  • Dream.
  • Maybe even write a blog post myself.
  • Nibble on some breakfast.
  • Dream a little more.
  • Finish tea.
Now, my little morning ritual is a pathetic cry from the austere Japanese tea ceremony, but I definitely see value in a quiet ritual that allows you to center yourself before the craziness of the day.  No matter how early I need to be somewhere, I make sure I get up early enough to have a little "breather" before jumping in. I think I may have picked this habit up from my dad, he still gets up early to mull over a cup of coffee even though he's retired now!  (I think he may even go back to bed after his early morning cup!  Love that!)

Do you have any morning rituals that ready you for the day?

Friday Link Love and Lovelies

Whoa!  I have been completely crazy-busy this week with school...and only school.  This is a big change for me since, in the past, I've been able to balance my education with working and even a little bit of playing.  I am discovering that this program is pretty much a full-time job, with copious amounts of overtime.  I have been more humbled (and a little freaked out!) by the intelligent people I am constantly surrounded by!  From my classmates to my instructors, I have to keep pinching myself!  I really feel so lucky and so challenged with my new direction.  And did I mention I'm a little freaked out, too;)?

Here's some loveliness for your holiday weekend!

~  What to wear in a 100 years in a 100 seconds.

~  I'm a Samoas-4-Lyfe kinda gal.

YES.

~  I love me some bobby pins.

~  Love her jewelry and hair!

~  Whoa.  I really needed this tutorial!

~  Holy.  Hell.  NEED.

Have a sunny holiday weekend!

Dressing Up....AT WORK?!???!

I have always had jobs where dressing up was the LAST thing on anyone's mind.  Does a fancy skirt really make a better latte?  Do perfectly tailored slacks really assist in testing blood for certain diseases?  Do your clients even care that you have J.Crew on (and styled just so) from head to toe?

No.
In my new path, dressing up is apparently imperative.  I grumbled at the thought of stuffy office attire, but leave it to EmersonMade to raise me up when I was wrong!  And I was so, so wrong.  I love pretty much every piece of their fall line!
*SWOON*

Ch-Ch-Changes

My first week of book-learnin' has been amazing!  And by amazing I mean all-encompassing of my free time!  I love Goldteef and it has become a little place for me to check in with my family and friends, but I will have to give the 'Teef a little less of my attention during this new school adventure!

Don't worry!  Goldteef will still have regular updates and lovies...but I think I can only eek out three to four posts a week with this heavy duty brain workout I'm involved in.  I also want to work on creating more quality posts as opposed to just quantity, ya know?  I knew you'd understand!  Now back to the books!  xo.

Link Love and Lovelies

Like, whoa.  Talk about a shift.  This past week has been soooooo...just, SO, you know?  I started my new program on Monday and not only is it going to be a full-time job, I'm going to LOVE it.  I had this moment where my stomach did a total cartwheel and I realized that I really BELONG in this program.  It was a funny realization because I have tried for so long to stay away from medicine.

This week also reminded me of how important my friends are to me.  I have a very dear and old friend who is very ill right now and I have to ask you to send healing thoughts his way.  He is a bright and hilarious energy that could use some positive energy right now.  Thank you for thinking of him for me.

I re-learned this week that subsidized health care is a MUST in this country.  From the basis of my new graduate program to the battles my friend is fighting with modern medicine, paying for any of this out of pocket would be an impossibility.  Health care is imperative and I feel it should be a right, not a privilege.

So as I step down from my soapbox, here's some loveliness for your summer weekend!

~ Love these fresh recipes!

~ Love this attention to detail.

~ So beautiful and amazing.

~ In love with this shirt.

~ TOTALLY identify with this.

~ WHOA.  And awesome.

~ This style.  Forever.

Have a restful weekend.

Natural Beauty: Dry Shampoo

Isn't this ad from the 70s ridiculous??  But honestly, I hate the greasies more than you know when it comes to my hair.  I also hate getting up even a nanosecond before I absolutely have to, and sometimes washing my hair just ain't an option.  Enter the holy freaking grail of dirty hair: dry shampoo.
I really like Salon Grafix Invisible Dry Spray Shampoo.  It really is invisible and adds an amazing texture to your hair.  If I'm going to braid my hair, even if it's squeaky clean, I spray this on to help the hair "grip" and stay in place before I start braiding!  A bottle lasts forever and you can pat your back for being a natural beauty and saving so much water;)!

Another cheapcheap option for dry shampoo is an old school fave, Psssssst Instant Spray Shampoo.  While this does leave a white powder on your hair at first, one you work it into your roots, your volume and texture will rival Brigitte's and the white powder magically disappears!  A bottle of this stuff will also last you a million years, so your down to, like, negative pennies per use.
Batiste has had a cult following in the dry shampoo department for awhile and while I've never used Batiste Dry Shampoo, I have an ALWAYS well-coifed fashionable friend who swears by it!  Her tip is to use it on clean hair from the get-go for great volume and control.  Girl's hair is amaze and this is the next dry shampoo on my shopping list.  Trust.

SLC Bites Summer 2011

Yesterday, Shug and I had an adventure!  We were able to secure two spots for the summer SLC Bites, which is part of Slow Food Utah, an organization committed to delicious, locally sourced, seasonal, and REAL food.  The founders of SLC Bites took the time to tell us that they were motivated to add some fresh faces to the usually "seasoned" foodie crowd of Salt Lake City and by the looks of it, the twenty to thirty-somethings were out in full force for the event at the 15th Street Gallery!

We started the evening out with antipasti from Caputo's Market that featured cheeses made from a local Eden dairy and Creminelli cured meats.  I really liked the sour cherry preserves added to cut the creaminess of the cheese.  I may or may not have scarfed down 8 of these...

We then moved on to a lightly seared ahi tuna medallion with toasted buckwheat and a green olive.  It was delicious!  The chef from Forage, Viet Pham, always does an amazing job of juxtaposing textures, and that was in full effect here!  (He also has fabulous taste in shoes!)
The true comfort food of the night was a pulled ginger pork banh mi, dressed with fresh cilantro, jalapeno, carrot, daikon, and cucumber for crunch.  Chef Tommy Nguyen was nice enough to make one bun-free for my gluten sensitivities!
Dessert was a gin concoction with a pineapple sorbet and smoked cedar notes!  It was a palate cleanser!  As the sorbet melted, it sweetened and mellowed the gin...soooo delicious!
Shug and I had a wonderful night and we hope to attend the next season's SLC Bites event!

Link Love and Lovelies

Yaaaaaaaaawn!  This week has worn me OUT.  Tying up loose ends at the final days at my job, checking things off my list of things that need to be completed for school, AND remodeling our kitchen has made for a crazy week.  I have a serious date with a nap on Sunday afternoon...Oh man, I'm gonna nap so right!  Do you have any fun plans for your weekend?

Here's some lovelies:

~ I could LIVE in this tumblr is it were possible!

~ Oddly beautiful.

~ Imma bake you and eat you!

~ LOVING her style right now.

~ What a great idea!

~ YES to everything happening in this outfit.

Home Stretch

Whew!  My last week of work couldn't have been busier!  In the craziness of finishing up with my clients at work, Shug and I decided we wanted to get our kitchen remodel finished before school started...YEAH.

Maybe not the best decision in the world, but our entire kitchen is sitting in a pile in our backyard now, so we don't have a choice but to continue!  The remodel noise has done a number on the poor pups, too!  Ruby went to stay in the fresh mountain air with Grandma and Grandpa 'Teef while Tucker gets a daily trip to doggy daycare.  I bet Rubes won't want to come back to stinky ol' SLC after a weekend running around in the hills!

Wish us luck...I have my fingers crossed that we will be finished with the big stuff by Monday...cause that's back to school time!  Eeek!

Kitchen Demo Lite

Signs you are really, truly a grownup now:

~ You spend your anniversary weekend eating Taco Bell to save moolah.

~  Said anniversary weekend is also spent wrestling 60-year old cabinets out of your kitchen.

~  You are now a proud owner of a sledge hammer.

~  But you only bought the sledge hammer
after tapping away at counter tops built for the zombie apocalypse
with a regular ol' pantywaist hammer
...for SIX hours.

~  You had a sincere discussion about garbage disposals.

~  THEN, you spent YOUR SHOE money on a garbage disposal...

~  The best part of your day was collapsing into bed and holding your husband's hand,
knowing you did a grownup kitchen demo together.

I can't get enough of the rough and fun sound of Flower Orgy.

This video, Boneyard, is a silly green-screen romp though what looks like
a summer day filled with chain smoking!

While I don't condone smoking,
I couldn't stop laughing at the awesome dude dancing in his apartment!

Have a good Monday!

Shug and I are going to start the adventure of demo-ing our kitchen this weekend!  Our hopes are to have it all rebuilt before school starts the following Monday...wish us luck;)!

Here's some link love for your weekend:

~ What a lovely Frances Bean she's grown up to be.

~ Hey girl, the only GIFs you'll ever need.

~ Still loving the choices people make on this site.

~ Love this dress and styling!

~ A perfect explanation about "resort collections."
I didn't know what they were!

~ Let me loose in this shop and I'm liable to do some serious damage!

~ Another reason I love Kristin Chenoweth.

Maxi Skirts

I have been longing (pun intended;)) for a maxi skirt to pair with a tank or a breezy tee.
There's something so ladylike and chic about these longer skirts.
I especially love pleats and pops of color!
This is pretty much the epitome of the perfect outfit for me:
crisp, classic shirt, comfy but cute sandals, flattering red bottoms,
and messy, lovely hair!  I'd even take the fro-yo!

The hunt continues!
